Statement: I have been working in clay for about six years
now, and have enjoyed every minute. Working in clay helps the creative bug in
me stay happy. My work is mostly functional pottery. I try to put a little of my
own personal style into every piece I make, drawing inspiration from sewing
notions, beads, nature, and just about anywhere else. What really gave me a
passion for making things was the sewing skills my mother taught me at a young
age. I graduated from Union University in 2003 with a BA
in Art. My emphasis at school was ceramics and sculpture. The wonderful
education I received there gave me the skills to nurture the love I have for all
things handmade. I am so glad I can share this with others though my work. My
primary mode of work is throwing on the pottery wheel and some handbuilding. I
currently fire my pottery in an electric kiln. I have been using high fire clay
and glazes since I started in clay. I have been fortunate enough to fire pots in
both a wood fire kiln and salt fire kiln with other local Jackson
potters. I met my husband at Union and we have two wonderful
little girls who keep me on my toes. I am originally from Missouri, but my
husband is native to Jackson, and so now we live and work in Jackson. I also
love to sew, cook, make jewelry, and just about anything else I can do that is
creative.
