Biography:
Don,
a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee,
was born in 1943. Donald became
interested in art at an early
age. He sketched Indians and
cowboys, tomahawks and guns
in elementary school. His older
sister saw his potential and
bought him a sketchbook for
Christmas when he was in the
sixth grade. As a sophmore in
high school, he withdrew from
his Latin class to enroll in
art. Mary Lou Derryberry was
his art teacher and began to
take hime under her wing and
teach him about values and oil
painting. By Don's senior year
he had won 1st place in the
art show and the best overall
art student award.
After
graduating from high school,
Don studied a wide range of
contemporary artists. He entered
and won several local art shows.
Don later went to college to
study art. He won best in show
in the college annual art show.
Don
has studied under several acclaimed
artists and attended many art
workshops with such artists
as Greg Kreutz, Kevin McPherson,
Tom Browning and Debbie High.
It
is Don's belief that you never
stop learning and every painting
you do is practice for the next.
