Statement:
I
was born and raised in the state
of Maine. It is rugged, beautiful
and very cold! I traveled south
to New York to attend college
and graduate school. It was
there that I discovered both
art therapy and pottery. It
was warmer in New York, but
not warm enough and way too
crowded, so I moved further
south to Florida. Florida
was very warm and had lots of
nature and wildlife that I enjoyed
and used for inspiration with
my pottery. Some times my pottery
would have palm trees and alligators
on them! After ten years,
more people crowded in and the
wildlife moved out. I began
to miss the seasons and it was
starting to feel too hot and
windy! Hurricanes Francis, Jeanne,
and Wilma all had a significant
impact on me, not to mention
my home!
Then I discovered
Jackson, Tennessee. I was recruited
to join the STAR center as a
full time art therapist. This
was a dream job for me, but
I was unsure about moving to
west Tennessee. After researching
Jackson, I discovered that it
is one of the best-kept secrets
around! The weather is just
right, toasty warm summers,
colorful autumns, and only an
occasional snow in the winter.
It has a small town feel with
friendly people along with a
cultural scene that rivals any
big city! I am already finding
my inspiration in the nature
that surrounds Jackson and I
look forward to sharing my work
through the Dickson Gallery
and making Jackson, Tennessee
my new home!
