Hometown: Milan,

Medium: Watercolor

Statement: My
paintings are reflective of
a lifelong love affair with
my native Tennessee as well
as extensive travels throughout
the world. My paintings feature
landscapes, architectural, nautical
subjects, portraits, landscapes,
florals, still lifes, lighthouses,
boats, and panoramic seascapes.
Since my work captures the special
qualities of life that I find
in my travels, I am indeed fortunate
to have developed a following
throughout the world.
I
strive for each of my paintings
to capture a specific moment
in time, filling it with rich
color and natural light. I am
primarily self-taught in the
watercolor medium, and has spent
the last 30 years refining his
skills as a watercolorist. I
use multiple layers of washes,
to bring out the depth and mood
of a subject. After the preliminary
washes are finished, I add extensive
dry brush detail work to bring
out the textures and nuances
of the subject I am trying to
capture. With advancing age
and bad knees most of my paintings
now are done in a studio with
the help of a 40 year collection
of reference photos, drawings
and on the spot studies. But
when the opportunity arises,
I love to be out in the field,
painting plein-air. My work
reflects a dynamic approach
to watercolors and to the respect
that I have for the watercolor
medium.
Although
schooled in oils, acrylic and
pastels I am better noted for
my fresh style in the watercolor
medium. My original paintings
have been accepted in many exhibits
and have graced galleries, homes,
professional establishments
and institutions around the
world.
With
studios in Tennessee and West
Virginia I live and paint mostly
in and around those areas. Both
areas being rural in nature
and very picturesque they are
prime locations for painting
and capturing the American landscape.
The convergence of rivers and
mountains, make these places
and topography a painter's delight.
In addition to the wonders of
the American landscape the Appalachian
Mountains and the Tennessee,
Ohio, and Mississippi Rivers,
also contribute a rich source
of inspiration for my work.
