Yep,
I'm a muppet fan...and have
always loved these guys. Remember
them? Statler and Waldorf
were the balcony hecklers
on the Muppet Show. They
stopped by the gallery the
other day to
wish us some encouragement in

The
Dickson Gallery of Fine Art announced our 2007 Artist
of the Year on March 28th at our 3rd
anniversary sell-ART-bration. We've
been setting the standard in downtown for
local artists in Jackson Tennessee since
our inception in November of 2004. And we've
decided it's high time we create
an "Artist of the Year" award. Those
of you who've been following our artistic
endeavors and our efforts towards
creating visual art awareness and support
of our region's artists, you'll not
be surprised who the 2007 Artist of the
Year recipient is.
Congratulations
to WELDON BALL! The

The
Dickson Gallery of Fine Art
was one of five businesses
in Jackson, TN awarded the
2006 Emerging Business Pinnacle
Award announced Monday, February
5th, 2007. Rachel Dickson
credited the many artists who've
helped make the Dickson Gallery
what it is today, namely: Dana
Brooks, Janice Sumler, Pat Patrick,
Jai Johnson, Jennie Mitchell,
Nancy Burleson, Jenna Cagle,
Pat Findley and Julia Humphreys.
Of course there are many
more, and "without the
artists the Dickson Gallery
would be nothing", Rachel
said.
Dickson
set out to prove the statement
wrong that
she'd heard for so long, "Jackson
just won't buy local art."
And now in just 2 short
years, Dickson Gallery artists'
work is permanently on display
at Jackson businesses such as
BancorpSouth (Greystone), Commercial
Bank and Trust, Attorney Carl
Seely's office, Highland Place
Bed and Breakfast and many many
individual Jackson area homes.
All
of us here at the Dickson Gallery
especially thank Mary Bearden
(Jackson Downtown Development
Corporation) for nominating
the Dickson Gallery for
this award and the Jackson
area Chamber of Commerce for
giving us recognition for what
we've accomplished in only twenty-seven
months.

1.
Your gift of art tells your recipient
you think he or she is interested in the finer things in life.
2.
Original
art, unlike a gift of 20-year-old whiskey, will keep on giving
pleasure year after year.
3.
If your gifts are distributed internationally
you can't miss: art is the universal language.
4.
Your original art gift is a refreshing change of pace from the usual presents.
5.
You're giving
something which is an exclusive, hand-made creation.
6.
Original art
is a gift which will delight the recipient and ennoble the giver.
7.
Original art is the perfect gift for that special someone - a permanent
reminder of the gift, the emotion and the giver.

"I was searching for things to do on a business trip to Jackson, TN. Their
website engaged my curiosity, so I checked in out in person. I enjoyed it so
much I have already been back and plan to return in the future. A quick fix of beauty and culture in a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. You are
in for a real treat if you get to meet the owner, Rachel Dickson. It's worth the
drive from Nashville or anywhere!
"[would
like to see] a map to show where things are located for us newcomers...(and
there are more NEW residents everyday. Just a simple guide to /about things
& events would be so very helpful."

"I
had the pleasure of visiting
the Dickson Gallery recently
and was very
pleasantly surprised to find such a wide variety of quality art
work. I was especially impressed with the photography. The owners were very
cordial and polite-no pressure sales tactics. Overall a very pleasant
experience!"
"The (staff
member) behind the rather cool front desk was helpful and seemed to know a
great deal about each of the artist. As a collector of moderately priced art the
story of the artist is as important to me as the work itself. The decor
compliments the work yet is still fun and modern, in a good way, not at all
sterile. If you find yourself in Jackson, TN it's definitely worth a
trip downtown. This smallish town is working hard at both growing and keeping
the hometown feel. America at it's best."

Tennesseans
are doing just that by purchasing
unique and colorful specialty
license plates. It's
a fun way to express your individuality
and support the cultural life
of Tennessee. Purchasing
a license plate provides
funding and support
for arts activities in your
own community through
the grant programs offered by
the Tennessee Arts Commission.
The demand for these specialty
plates has steadily increased,
and now provides over
two thirds of the Commission's
grants budget.
