On
my way downtown on Friday afternoon
(Nov. 25th) I passed by Toys-R-Us
and the Old Hickory mall about
7:45am. I was astounded
at how jam-packed the parking
lots of both places were. Wow!
Folks must have got up
to hunt their holiday bargains
at the crack of dawn…or slightly
before. Saturday was not
much different and apparently
even more intense. I was
delighted when many people came
through the art gallery over
the weekend with their family
members from out-of-town stating
they were seeking solace away
from the long lines and the
crowded concentration of folks
they encountered in other parts
of town. Cool! This is
only my second Christmas season
downtown and I don’t recall
ever being the relaxing shopping
option this time last year.
That’s progress. Downtown
Jackson is definitely a place
anyone can now come to and find
countless unique gifts for that
hard-to-shop for family member,
friend or co-worker. In
fact, here’s a few downtown
gift ideas…do you have a friend,
family or co-worker who frequents
Shooter’s Lounge, Downtown Tavern
or Lola’s Bar & Grill? Then
why not buy them a $20 dollar
bar tab for Christmas? Please
don’t think that I’m endorsing
intoxication here…but I certainly
would utilize a $20 dollar bar
tab, even if I use it to buy
my friends each a drink. Do
you have an antique collector
in your circle of friends or
family? How ‘bout a gift certificate
from Yesterday’s, Reflections
or Lafayette

Thrift
Market. Know an art lover?
Then be sure to include Art
Under a Hot Tin Roof, Marguerites
and the Dickson Gallery of Fine
Art in your pursuit of that
gift of distinction. ...and
these are just a few ideas.
There’s positively plenty of
options downtown for you to
choose from while seeking that
momentous, expressive, one-of-a-kind
gift for your special someone. Oh,
and don’t forget that when your
family comes to visit and you
want to show them around Jackson,
bring ‘em downtown. A
pleasant, welcoming atmosphere
awaits you and your family down
here. You can easily spend
an afternoon wandering the streets
and meandering through the shops
that downtown has to offer while
simultaneously spending time
with your family and friends.
No stress, no nightmarish
traffic, no pushing and shoving.
Just laid-back, un-pressured,
leisurely “looking” awaits you. Most
downtown businesses are open
Tuesday through Friday 10:00am
to 5:30pm and Saturday from
10:00am to 4:00pm. For
